Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, "How long shall I bear with this evil congregation that complain against me? I have heard the complaints of the children of Israel, which they complain against me. Tell them, 'As I live, says Yahweh, surely as you have spoken in my ears, so I will do to you.' Numbers 14:26β28 WEB.
The Israelites came out of Egypt and saw incredible miracles each day while they were in the wilderness. They ate mana from heaven. Pillars of fire appeared to keep them warm and give them light. Seas parted before them so they could pass on dry land. When they were thirsty, water came out of the rocks. When they tired of eating mana and wanted meat, quail appeared knee-deep around their camp. Their clothes did not wear out, and there was no sickness or disease among them.
Then the Israelites came to the border of the Promised Land and camped there. They sent out twelve spies to look over the land. Ten of them brought back a frightful report. They spoke of the giants who lived there, who made them feel like grasshoppers. They are stronger than us! It is a land that eats up its inhabitants! The people panicked. They decided to stone Moses and Aaron, appoint a new leader, then return to slavery in Egypt.
While the Israelites grumbled and complained among themselves, the Lord listened to them. When He had heard it enough, He decided to do the very thing He heard them say with their mouths. The Israelites had said: "We are going to die in this wilderness!" and the Lord basically said: "So be it." In this case, they had prophesied their future.
Here we learn about God's perfect will and His permissive will for us. The Lord wanted the Israelites to enter the Promised Land, but they were paralyzed with fear and refused. Their fear changed their destiny. Faith believes that God will come through for you, that this will be OK. Fear is the opposite, thinking that He will not take care of you, that you cannot do this, that you will die if you try it.
All the great heroes in scripture had to face their fears and speak positively about their situation. While the army of Israel cowered in fear, David looked at the giant Goliath. He said: "This day will Yahweh deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you, and take your head from off you, and I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day to the birds of the sky, and the wild animals of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel" (1 Samuel 17:46). Then David stepped out to make it happen.
God has great plans for you, plans to give you hope and a future, but we need to agree with Him. The enemy also has a plan for us: to steal, kill, and destroy. The words coming out of your mouth will shape your attitude and beliefs and confirm whose side you are really on. Yes, we actually get to choose.
Don't speak curses over your own life and family. Don't let doom and gloom control your speech and thoughts. When you do this, you are just feeding the enemy ammunition to use against you. Agree with God: "I don't know how, but this will work out for good." Say what you would like to happen if you could choose, because what comes out of your mouth actually matters.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me stand firm when faced with fear. Please fill me with Your glorious presence and help me to endure whatever comes my way. I choose You today, and though I am weak, I am strong with You by my side. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!
Note: βDo not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God.β (Philippians 4:6-7) ~ If you have a prayer need, we are here for you! We and the prayer team are ready to lift you up at our private prayer page: RHM Prayer Network

This is a wonderful commentary on faith, but do not mis-hear it. We should not βname it and claim itβ or βdecree and declare itβ unless we agree with God about His desires for us. It is so important to βrightly divide the Wordβ by His Spirit! Read James 4:13-17. It is with humility that we receive His blessings through the true faith of knowing His love for us, not through the arrogance of a presumptuous authority. This type of faith only comes through surrender to the Author.
