After many days, Yahweh's word came to Elijah, in the third year, saying, "Go, show yourself to Ahab; and I will send rain on the earth." 1 Kings 18:1 WEB.
Some friends once pulled me onto a high roller coaster with them. We waited for everyone to get on board and locked in, then the ride operator started it up. The coaster slowly rattled and climbed up the rails. After a long wait, it finally crossed the crest of the hill, and the ride began. It was all reasonably mundane until we crossed the top of that hill. Then it started, and oh myβ¦hang on!
Elijah waited for three years. Praying, waiting, and then waiting some more. He stayed by a brook Cherith for a while. Then he stayed with a poor widow in Zarephath. There was not a lot going on. But within hours of the Lord speaking this scripture to him, Elijah had a showdown with 850 false prophets (1 Kings 18:19).
He prayed and caused a stream of fire to come down from heaven. His prayer caused it to rain when it had not for three years, and then he outran a chariot back to town while he was on foot. His actions turned Israel to the Lord for a season. I think Elijah had crossed the top of the hill and was hanging on, just trying to keep up with God.
Don't give up on God during the slow hill climb. When His plan finally comes together, things can move very quickly. You can be racing to stay up with Him. The roller coaster climbs the hill slowly but when God says, "Now is the time," hang on for the ride is about to begin.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for being there for me. Though it comes slow, I know that it is coming and that You have plans for me. Please guide me and teach me along the way. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!

Great devotional! I have ridden on roller coasters, and I actually did not like them. In my past, I went through chaotic roller coasters, and that didn't help my spirit, mind and heart at all. Now, I walk and I go slow and I keep things simple, so I can sure of myself and with God...He has brought me a long way in the last 10 years since my Believer's Baptism. Now, at 67, years, I am grateful to have God in my life!!!
