But Naaman was angry, and went away and said, "Behold, I thought, 'He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of Yahweh his God, and wave his hand over the place, and heal the leper' " 2 Kings 5:11 WEB.
Naaman stared at his new skin with amazement when he came up from the muddy water for the seventh time. His skin which had been covered in running sores, was now smooth as a baby. He was completely healed from leprosy.
Naaman came to the prophet Elisha's house with horses and chariots carrying 6,000 shekels of gold and 1,300 pounds of silver to pay for his healing. He had an entourage of servants traveling with him. He expected the man of God to come out to meet him, wave his hands over him and say a long prayer.
Instead, Elisha sent out a messenger who told him to go wash seven times in the muddy Jordan River. Naaman became angry, and he left Elisha's house in a cloud of dust, choosing to remain sick. Then after talking it over with his servants and calming down, he returned and did as Elisha had instructed. He dipped himself in the Jordan river seven times, and he was healed of leprosy.
I have caught myself telling God how to do something and expecting Him to do it my way. Then watch Him do it His way, which was better. He is not limited to our small mindset and our tiny resource pool. We often want God to be like us, to walk this way, to talk this way, but we have to remember that we serve Him. He doesn't serve us. The Almighty God is not our pet. He's the Boss.
Twice I have asked Him to bless us financially at RHM so that we could buy some better equipment. Instead of money coming, someone called us and wanted to trade thousands of dollars worth of high-end equipment in exchange for our help with a project. The equipment was better than I would have bought, but we came to need it later. We often think too small and within our current resources. He is not limited like that and can see what is coming down the road.
Naaman gained some humility, and he was healed in the process. You can ask God to help you, but don't tell Him how to do it. Let Him work it out. He has multi-layered plans that, in the end, are perfect. Ask Him, then just let Him handle it as He chooses. Trust Him. You will be happy with the results.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You for all that You do for me. Please help me see through Your eyes and guide my prayers. Do it Your way, Lord, for You know best. Fulfill Your will in my life. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!
Note: 'Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God.' (Philippians 4:6-7). If you have a prayer need, we are here for you! We and the prayer team are ready to lift you up at our private prayer page: RHM Prayer Network
