I sought for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I would not destroy it; but I found no one. Ezekiel 22:30 WEB.
The cities of Sodom and Gomorrah grew more and more wicked. Their scales finally tipped, and their judgment day came. Abraham stood in the gap for them (Genesis 18:24). He pleaded with God and asked Him if He would destroy them if there were just fifty righteous men found there. God said that He would spare them if He could find fifty.
Then Abraham asked Him, "Well, what if there were forty-five righteous people?" Then forty, thirty, twenty, ten. God agreed to each request, then Abraham stopped. It appears that God would have kept going as long as He had someone to intercede for them. Abraham stopped at ten.
God seeks intercessors who will pray for the nation and for each other. If you have someone who is lost, don't stop praying for them. Jesus told us, "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him, and I will raise him up in the last day" (John 6:44). So pray for the Lord to draw their hearts to Him.
Also, pray for the nation that you live in. You live there, and if it prospers, you will benefit as well. "Seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to Yahweh for it; for in the peace of it shall you have peace" (Jeremiah 29:7).
If you know the Lord today, chances are someone stood in the gap for you. Now your prayer could be the one thing that changes everything for someone else. God is still seeking those who will stand in the gap for others and intercede for them. Your prayers matter.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You for saving me. Please draw the rest of my family to You. May my whole family come to know and love You. All things are possible with You. Put the lost in my path, give me the words to speak. Draw the heart of my country to You. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!
