One of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, testing him. 'Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?'
Jesus said to him, 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. A second likewise is this, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.' Matthew 22:35 WEB
Many people that I talk with, or invite to a Church service, will not come because they feel that something is wrong in their life. They tell me that they want to get things fixed in their life first, and then they will come to Church. We ofter hear 'We need to get our house in order first.' Of course decades pass by and the devil sees to it that those things will never be right in their life. It usually gets worse.
The truth is, you will never make yourself good enough for God. That is the reason He sent His son Jesus to make a way for us. Now His door is wide open and He says 'Come just as you are, and I will help you.' He took away the obstacles and the excuses.
There are said to be about 613 commandments in the Bible, but when Jesus was asked about the greatest commandments, He replied with only two: 'Love God' and 'Love your neighbor.' If you fully obeyed these two commandments, you would not have to worry about the others. It would eliminate stealing, adultery, murder, idols and so much more. Obeying just these two commandments would completely change the world that we live in.
So let us stop being stalled on commandment 572 and just focus on getting the first two right! Sometimes we get so sidetracked that we miss the simplicity of the Gospel, the Good News. Come to God now, just as you are, and if He has a problem with you, His Holy Spirit will convict you one thing at a time. Then He will give you the grace to change it and move on. Love God, love your neighbor, for those are the greatest commandments.
Prayer: Heavenly Father please fill me with Your love for others. Let me see them through Your eyes. You made each of us, and You don't make mistakes. I love You, please love through me, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.
