The Buck Stops Here

if my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 WEB

I have a Dilbert cartoon about tech support taped to our internet router because it reminds me of our service provider here. Each time that we call them with a problem, they immediately say that it must be something on our end, but then the problem is silently fixed.

In the cartoon, Dilbert the technician answers the support telephone and the first thing that he said to the customer calling was: 'Your problem is with another company's products or services.' Without hearing, knowing, or caring what the problem was. The customer said: 'But you haven't heard what the problem is yet.' To which Dilbert replied: 'Let's pretend that will make a difference.'

As Christians, we often try to pass the buck onto the world or other groups, while we are the only ones with the key. We believe that it is someone else's fault that we are in this situation, when actually we are trapped in a pit that we dug ourselves. Many times we are reaping what we have sown (Galatians 6:7).

There is only one way out of the pit: That we turn to God, humble ourselves and pray. Then He promises that He will hear from heaven, turn, and heal our land. Whether we caused it or not, we have the answer.

The answer is not politics or war, but seeking God. All through the Bible, God moved when His people got serious with Him. When they became lukewarm and backslidden, their nation fell apart.

Can Christians prosper in a fallen world? Absolutely! If we all were to humble ourselves (fasting), repent, and pray, then God will turn and heal our nation. May God give us the wisdom and grace to do so.

Prayer: Heavenly Father I pray that You bring peace to our nation. Forgive us. Guide our leaders. Remove the evil influences from our government. Fill our nation with Your presence and convict people of sin once again, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.
